Brief:

A city is ravaged by an epidemic of instant "white blindness". 

Those first afflicted are quarantined by the authorities in an 

abandoned mental hospital where the newly created "society 

of the blind" quickly breaks down. Criminals and the physically 

powerful prey upon the weak, hording the meager food rations 

and committing horrific acts.

約 10 年前, 第一次上市立圖書館借書, 詢問管理員, 一問三不知;

只好至書架, 隨手取了這本, 算是開了眼界. 後來, 才知道, 此書作者

Jose Samarago  于 1998 得到諾貝爾文學獎, 在文學界有很崇高

地位, 他因與梵蒂岡就神學理論爭議, 被葡萄牙政府迫害, 終身自我

放逐, 至死不曾回祖國;
